At A Glance: Arrowhead Alpines

lewesia.jpg
The plants Joseph brought from Arrowhead Alpines-I could not take my eyes off of them. To follow-a small sample of what he brought for the fair.  The pale yellow hellebores – this was a first for me.  They are so beautiful!  The plants are well grown.  How unusual they are is completely enchanting.  All of the plants that were brought in and arranged this afternoon-enchanting.  Itoh hybrid peonies.  Virginia bluebells and snowdrops. Primulas of various types.  Succulent bowls. A preview of summer annual combinations via Proven Winners. Pansy and lettuce pots.  Spring twigs. Potted tulips and hyacinths.  Some gorgeous doronicum in full flower-from Bogie Lake.  The spring has been so slow in coming that I am having time to thoroughly anticipate and savor the season.   Our garden fair-I will admit I am excited about it.  Black and white shortbread cookies, as usual.  The regular hearty sweet loaves. Great coffee and tea.  A community of great growers.  We are ready.

miniature-alpine-daffodil.jpgI have never seen this narcissus before.  If you have a big love for plants, come to the fair.  I will say that how the shop looks-courtesy of Rob’s tireless work- is worth a look see. Hope to see you this weekend.

I like your blog, but this time you messed up – raving about a hellebore and then pictures of everything but a yellow hellebore….

  2. Lovely! What variety is that iris? I had a patch of it show up in a mum division someone shared with me, and I thought there was something wrong with it! It’s so ugly, I love it 😉

  3. I’m familiar with Arrowhead in Fowlerville. I vist at least once a year but I;ve never heard about a spring fair where yiou can purchase these lovely spring bloomers. What’s this fair that you speak of?

My shop, Detroit Garden Works, hosts a spring fair-which is this weekend, Saturday 9-5, and Sunday 12-4. Arrowhead Alpines will have plants for sale, along with 9 other nurseries.

Yowza! What a gorgeous line up of plants. Spring has definitely sprung!!!
Can’t wait to get there tomorrow…

  5. Wish I could make it! Joseph is a great guy and Arrowhead has some very cool plants!

The yellow hellebores are beautiful. I stopped in a local nursery today and picked up a couple, not yellow, one double white, the other chartreuse. I have a new love.

  7. Here in upstate NY I can only be envious of the garden fair and all the lovely plants I missed (although we have our own plant sales and fairs coming up in May). But luckily for me Arrowhead Alpine has a wonderful website, and the plants I ordered last year were well grown and arrived in great shape. They have a tremendous variety of unusual treasures.
