I have been a professional landscape designer in the Midwest for 24 years. I opened Detroit Garden Works, a retail store for fine objects for garden and home in 1996, and Branch Manufacturing, which produces prototypes, and one of a kind objects for gardens-many of which are my design- in 2005. My formal background is in biology and 19th century English literature. My life in my late twenties was as a fine artist-for which I had no formal training, but for a year's apprenticeship with Sondra Freckelton, a watercolorist in NYC whose work still haunts me.
A job in a nursery, to support myself as an artist in the early 80's evolved into a love and a career in landscape and garden design. A year stint at the Iowa Writer's workshop in 1972 may have contributed to my writing here. I am very passionate about what I do, and this I like to share.
